-TEI AND SEUL GI-

“Maybe I AM wrong, Tei! Maybe how I feel is wrong! Maybe I don’t like you! Maybe I do! I don’t know!”

Tei sighed and looked at her. “Seul Gi-ah, don’t be like this.”

Seul Gi gasped and grunted. “Don’t be like what Tei?! I’m sick of this. I’m sick of having to be the second choice in everything. I let Chae Yeon get the jobs that were supposed to be mine! I always had the best things to say about her because she’s my best friend. I’ve always been regarded as ‘Chae Yeon’s friend’! Not Seul Gi, not Bae Seul Gi. But ‘Chae Yeon’s friend’. I let her get everything!” Tears had already formed in her eyes. “But for her to have you! That is asking too much already! Please Tei,” she came near him and as her voice cracked, she wailed, “I’ve liked you way back… E-even..” she wiped a tear, “even before she did!” she pointed to the picture of Chae Yeon in the room, “Why can’t you see that?”

Tei never liked it when he saw girls cry. It was his weakness. To see tears falling from such delicate and beautiful faces, it made him sad and guilty – especially for the fact that the reason why this girl crying in front of him was crying because of him. He held on to her shoulders, “Seul Gi-ah… Why now? Don’t you think it’s an inappropriate time to tell me this?”

“If it is, then when is the appropriate time, huh? All my life I’ve tried to make myself forget how I felt for you because I knew that you wouldn’t see me the way you liked Chae Yeon. It was impossible. So I didn’t want to tell you. I didn’t have to tell you. You really wouldn’t care anyway! You–"

“Seul Gi, I–“

“Shut it. Let me finish. Would you have accepted me if I told you I liked you? Answer me.”

Tei’s shocked expression was obviously the answer. He ran a hand through his hair and mumbled, “I don’t kn–”

“Don’t what? Don’t know?” Seul Gi furrowed her eyebrows and bit her lower lip. “Of course you do! You love Chae Yeon. You will never leave Chae Yeon. You will never replace her for anybody. You breathe her. You live for her. You love her!”

Tei grunted and spoke, “Isn’t that enough proof for you to move away and forget me, Seul Gi?!” Before he could think, the words just came out. Seul Gi held one hand up her mouth as the tears fell, silencing the room.

“Omo…” Her faint voice was barely heard.

Some girls would have ran away and left the situation hanging – but not Seul Gi. She was a strong girl. She never took things backing down, and this was no exemption – no matter how much it hurt.

“Seul Gi, you’re Chae Yeon’s best friend. You’re the one who she should be painting her nails with. The one she goes to and cries on when we fight. The one who she spends the rest of her days giggling over boys and Hollywood Celebrities like Bad Pritt–“

“Brad Pitt…” Seul Gi corrected him.

“Brad Pitt. Yeah. Anyway, I’m flattered to know how much you like me, Seul Gi ah.” Tei came up to her and held her in a hug. She leaned on his body and whimpered while listening. “But you already said that I love Chae Yeon, and that’s the truth. I don’t know how I’ll be without her.” By then, Seul Gi had already wet his clothes. “I hope this won’t affect your relationship with her. She needs you as her best friend. I need you to be there for her.”

Tei paused, waiting for Seul Gi to respond. Seeing that she wasn’t talking, he continued. “I’m sorry but I cannot accept your heart. I know how it feels to be rejected, Seul Gi.” He stepped back and held her face with his hands, “I too was once heartbroken. I thought that I was going to die when the girl I’ve loved for 4 years rejected me.” Tei looked down and sighed. “Actually, I think I did die. Nothing really mattered to me anymore back then, and I lived my life like a robot. But when Chae Yeon came into my life, everything changed. I can’t let her go Seul Gi. I just can’t.”

“T-Tei…”

“I’m sorry.”

Seul Gi sniffed and held his hands. “Chae Yeon is very lucky to have you. I’m sorry for this… It’s not really me to just go bursting out…”

“It’s okay,” he pat her head, “it happens to the best of us.”

“I’m sorry, Tei.”

“It’s okay, come here. Cry all you want. I’m here.” Tei held her again in a tight embrace.

“Nothing will change after this, okay?”

Seul Gi let him hug her, tight as she had wanted and needed. She looked up to Tei, and for the last time, savored the moment. For the last time, she savored the feeling of being near him and feeling butterflies inside. For the last, very last time, she savored the feeling of being in love with Kim Ho Kyung.

-HAHA AND CHAE YEON-

“HAHAHAHAHAHAH!”

Unlike in the room where Tei and Seul Gi were, loud laughter was all that was heard from the room of Chae Yeon and Haha.“That was hilarious!” Chae Yeon laughed, slapping her thighs and throwing her head back.

Ahh. She looks so pretty this way.

“I can’t believe that elephant did that!” She said, hugging herself as she complained how much her stomach hurt from too much laughing.

KYAAAAAA. You look so cute!

“HAHAHAHA! And that zookeeper! OHOHOHO!” She then started snorting loudly this time, unable to contain the laughter. “OMOO MY STOMACH!!!”

Ah. When will you ever take me seriously?

“Ahehehe,” Chae Yeon then started whimpering down, wiping a few tears in the process. “It’s been such a long time since I laughed so hard. HaHa, you really are the best.”

Hearing those words, HaHa woke up from a daze and smiled at her awkwardly. “The best?”

“Hmm.” Chae Yeon nodded and smiled. “I mean… It’s hard to believe that you were never so awkward with me even if you secretly liked me.” She teased her by pinching his arms.

“YA! THAT HURT! Aigo~ You pabo,” he flicked her forehead and smiled victoriously.

“Ooouch~ I didn’t pinch you THAT hard! Ouchhhhh,” she put her hand up to her forehead and snickered.

Both of them paused for a moment. The silence was deafening, but for Chae Yeon and HaHa, it was something that they needed to go back to talking seriously once again.

“So,” HaHa scratched the back of his head, “does this change anything?”

Chae Yeon looked up and asked, “What changes everything?”

HaHa sneered, “You know, this. This whole confession of how much I like you and stuff. I mean, you won’t avoid me, right?”“Aigo. Oppa! That’s so high school! Of course I won’t!”

Relieved, HaHa sat back into his chair, “Good. Because I can always get used to the fact that you and Tei are together, even if he is my best friend. At least I still get to see you. But if you ever start avoiding me because of this… Aish,” HaHa shook his head, “that’s going to be so hard for me. I won’t know what to do if you’d never talk to me again.”

Chae Yeon smiled and held his hand encouragingly. “Don’t worry. Nothing’s going to change between us, HaHa. You’re still the oppa that I’ve learned to adore and get used to against my will.”

“Yah!” HaHa snapped.

Chae Yeon giggled. “I’m just kidding. I’ve always loved being around you because you were so much fun to be with. I was always laughing with you. But–“

“But what?” HaHa looked up.

Chae Yeon bit her lower lip (a habit she learned from Seul Gi) and sighed (a habit she learned from Tei). “You know the answer…”

The both of them looked at their joint hands. Hers was on his hands. There was nothing awkward about it. For minutes, they just sat rooted to their seats, until HaHa finally spoke.

“Frankly, I don’t really know what I could do if I hadn’t met someone like you Chae Yeon. You’re the reason why I laugh the way I laugh. Look the way I look. Love the way I love.”

Chae Yeon felt something tugging on to her heart. Her heart had started to beat rapidly, not because she was giddy inside, but because of the fact that she knew what he was going to say. Apparently, she always did know. Afraid of hurting a good friend, she felt something stingy in her eye.

“I’ll always like you… That’s never going to change. You’re always going to be somebody I look back to and remember in my future relationships.”

A tear fell. “Why are you telling me this now, HaHa?”

HaHa, noticing that Chae Yeon had started crying, let go of her hand to take out a handkerchief in his pocket. He gave it to her, and got back to holding her hand. “You’ve always known I liked you. Would it really matter if I told you last week? Last month? Tomorrow?” He held her face and wiped a tear.

“I’m sorry…”

“Don’t say sorry. You didn’t do anything.”

Chae Yeon whispered. “But–“

“If you did do anything, you showed me how it is to be in love. How it is to be happy, Chae Yeon-ah.”

Chae Yeon looked at him intently in the eyes and could only think of one thing: Tei. She loved Tei. And to hear HaHa confessing to her breaks her heart. She was going to hurt HaHa. She had to reject him.

But before she could speak, HaHa continued.

“I know in my heart that you love Tei, Chae Yeon-ah. And I couldn’t be happier. What good is it to me if I tried to force you to love me? That certainly won’t make me happy now, won’t it?”

Chae Yeon sighed to herself in relief and sniffed.

“Chae Yeon, I’m happy for you,” he said, giving her a reassuring smile. “When I saw Tei confess on national TV and in front of the hundreds of viewers, I told myself how I could’ve never done anything like that. Because to be honest, I’m not as courageous as Tei is. He loves you, he really does. And if I know myself that I’m not any better than he is, then I’m willing to let go. I’m willing to step aside and–WOAH.“

Before HaHa could finish his sentence, Chae Yeon stood up and went to him, giving him a big, tight hug. She bent her head and leaned on his left shoulder, mumbling words that HaHa could not understand.

At first, HaHa did not move and just had his arms in the air. After a few moments, he smiled, hugged her back and spoke, “What’s this for?”

Chae Yeon hugged him tighter as she felt a smile on her face amidst the tears. “For everything.”

“Where IS everybody?!” a PD frantically shouted, throwing things in the air.

Another PD came up to him and squealed, “Aigo~ The show’s about to restart in an hour!”
As they were rummaging through the closets of the dressing rooms, looking for Tei and the others (as if it were possible that they could’ve hidden there), Kim Jong Kook went in the room and held the shoulder of one PD.

“What are you doing?”

The PD, shocked to find the assistant director so calm and collected, shrugged off his hand and spoke, “I’m looking for Tei! And Chae Yeon! And HaHa! And Seul Gi! And that new kid!”

“New kid? Seung Gi? And you’re looking for them in… A closet drawer?” Jong Kook laughed.

The PD, shocked, retorted back, “Well I suppose yooouu know where they are, huh?”

“I don’t. But there will be no need to look for them. We’re going to cancel recording today. You guys go home and rest. Tei and the others must be tired today. We’ll continue recording tomorrow, araso?”

And at that, the PDs stomped out, leaving a smiling Jong Kook in the room. As he was about to sit down, he heard an all too familiar voice calling out to him.

“Uhm… Hyung?”
