-SEUNG GI’S POV-

I came out the building just in time to see a group of screaming fan girls waiting for–
“SEUNG GI OPPPA!!!”
“SARANGHAE!!”
“WAAAAAAAAAAH! MARRY MEEEE OPPA!”

– Me?!

“WAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!”

Scream after scream, I couldn’t really make out whose voice was whose as one after the other, girls started swarming over me. All I could do was hunch over.

“KYAAA! Look at him! He’s soo cuuuuuuuuuuute!!!”

They started running after me, I saw at the corner of my eyes. Seeing them cover over to me, I stood up straight and suppressed my… my… fear, if you can call it like that, of being man-pounded by these fans, with a smile. Smile Seung Gi-ah.

“Oppa! We’re your biggest fans! Ca#&^#$&^#@”
“*&(*#*#@^$&#^ muffins @)!(#@*%&@# her *(@&*#”
“KYAAAAAAAAAAAAAA~”

I couldn’t quite make out what they were trying to tell me as one by one they tried to touch my hands, my shirt, my hair and my face. “Girls, girls–” I tried to calm them down, but none of it worked. Nervous laughter escaped through my mouth, as I tried veering past them, but to no avail.

I giggled a bit to hide my nervousness. Although I was very flattered that they were swooning because of me, and that I had fans, it did get kind of scary. “What do you girls want?” I addressed to them, smiling and holding on to my sanity which was teetering slightly off-balanced like it was on a high-cliff, waiting to just drop.

“A PICTUREE!”
“A PHOTO!!”
“CAN YOU SIGN THIS FOR ME?!”
“YOUUU!!”
“KYAAAAA! OPPA!”

I couldn’t understand why there weren’t any guards to fix the situation, when it dawned on me that they probably had already gone home since it was a day off from work. “Okay, okay,” I laughed, “Here,”

One by one, I signed my CD covers, took pictures with girls jumping under my arms around them, giggling and holding up peace signs to the equally giddy camera girls who were taking pictures. Occasionally, some of them stole kisses to my cheek and squealed near my ear. I let them, because there really wasn’t anything wrong with it. I mean, it was my first time to interact with fans ever since I became an artist.

“OPPA! You’re so niiiiice~”
“Thank you opppaaaaaa! I wish you were my real opppppa!”
“OMO!” One girl commented and pouted, “He can’t be my oppa! I’m older! I can be your noona!”

Noona.

They continued laughing and taking pictures of me awkwardly standing on knees that I felt were about to fall to the ground.

Noona.

Psh. Don’t deny it, Seung Gi-ah.
Why did you suddenly shut up, huh?
Whose name popped in your head when you heard it: Noona.

“-RANGHAEEEEEEE!”

I looked up to see the fans were now walking away. Snapping out of it, I bowed, bid them goodbye, and waved my hand while smiling genuinely. Some blushed, some giggled, some put their fists up in the air.

“Hwaiting! You can do it, oppa~” They squealed in delight.

“Dongsaeng a~ I will be a good noona to you~” One screamed, throwing her arms in the air as they ran off giggling and laughing to themselves.

I felt tired after this fan encounter for obvious reasons. Smiling for 30 minutes straight, trying to control an insane mob of girls… Aish. It was very tiring. I ran a hand through my hair and it dawned on me that I haven’t reached the coffee place that hyung was talking about. Heaving a sigh, I trudged stealthily, cautious of lurking fan girls hiding in who knows where. It wasn’t long before the small building came to view.

I looked through the glass door and became fond of it already. It looked like a very relaxing place, with a sort of ‘antique’ feel to it. Wooden chairs, wooden tables with glass countertops, a chandelier in the middle of the room made of glass jewels that looked very pretty with the reflections of the light. As soon as I my foot stepped into the room, the smell of coffee reached my nose and a smile crept up my face. I’ve always loved my coffee smelling this way. Enough for me to say that it smelled like home.

A young lady greeted me from the counter. “Annyeong haseyo!”

“A-anyeong,” I smiled, and looked around the room.

“You must be new!” she bellowed, maybe because I was curiously looking around the room mesmerized by the pretty interiors.

I giggled and said, “Ne. A friend of mine suggested that I check this place out.”

The waitress scoffed, “I bet it was Kim Jong Kook, no?”

“Haha, yes. How did you know?”

Her eyes became crescent as she spoke, “He’s always recommending this place to the other stars. He’s like a walking advertisement, and we’re not even paying him to advertise.”

“Then your coffee must be really good.”

“We try,” she winked and said, “So what will you have?”

“Anything you recommend?”

“Oh, you should look at that wall,” she pointed at the wall beside the counter, “It’s a list of the drinks that celebrities usually order.”

My mouth formed an ‘o’ and I looked to my left and scanned the wall. It had over 100+ names of stars. Surprisingly a big number, considering the fact that the coffee shop was rather small. I scanned the names hastily to find a coffee drink that would catch my attention, but something else did.

Chae Yeon – Strawberries and Cream Frap with extra Cookies and Cream topping

I sighed and spoke to myself. Chae Yeon noona. Tsk. Why must you always find ways to catch my attention?

I brought my finger up to her name on the wall and smiled. The waitress suddenly coughed, “Ahem. So… Chae Yeon’s drink?”

“What?”

“Chae Yeon’s drink? Are you going to order it?” Suddenly, she seemed very impatient.

“Oh no, no. It just, uhm… Caught my attention.”

She scoffed and replied, “Yours and all the other men in the world. Why do you guys like her anyway?”

“I didn’t say I like her.”

She smirked at me and replied, “Right. Like all the other men in the world.” She sighed and punched in the order. “Wait! Wait! No! That’s not my order,” I fidgeted, grabbing her arm before she can punch in much more.

The waitress then grunted and blew a big heavy breathe to make her bangs fly off of her face. “Then what will you get?”

Interesting. Why did she suddenly get all cranky? PMS, maybe?

“Oh. And if you’re thinking why I’m getting all cranky and stuff, it’s because this happens all the time. A lot of guys like Chae Yeon unni and it’s frustrating how she just hurts them in the end.”

“Hurts them?” Aigo. My Chae Yeon noona will never do that.

“Yeah. She’s like a player version for the guys. It’s sad. The boys like the ‘idea’ of who Chae Yeon is. But if they find out how she really is… Hah. Sucks to be them.”

“How do you know these things?” I asked curiously. For a waitress, she seemed like she could replace all the hosts in the gossip shows on TV (not… that, uhm, I watch them or anything)…

...

Moving on…

“I see Chae Yeon with guys all the time in this place. She’s a regular. Got used to it, so… uh, yeah.”

“Don’t you get fed up with it?”

“Of course I do. All the oppas she brings are depressingly hot!” She started fanning her face. “I’d kill to have oppas as goodlooking as hers. But then again, I’m just a waitress. No one will ever look at me the same way they look at Chae Yeon.”

I sighed at her and saw that she was biting her lip in an odd way. I held her shoulder comfortably and spoke, “Because Chae Yeon and you are different, uhm…” Realizing I hadn’t known her name yet, I glanced at her name plate: Lee Da Hae, “Lee Da Hae.” I repeated.

“What do you mean?” She asked curiously.

“People see other people differently. People who like Chae Yeon may not like you. But people who like you may not like noona. The world doesn’t have a given set of criteria that everybody has to follow. If that were it, then all the men in the world would be fighting over Lee Hyori and her ONLY.”

“But everybody loves Hyori…”

“Not my point.”

“Then what IS the point?” She tapped her finger on the countertop while raising one of her eyebrows.

I grinned and shrugged, placing a sarcastic tone in my voice. “I don’t know. You tell me.”

She stared at me for what may be a lifetime before finally replying, “That’ll be $ 10.”

I snickered, paid her, and replied, “Pleasure doing business with you.”

“I look forward to seeing you here again, uhhhh…”

“Seung Gi….” I continued, “Lee Seung Gi.”

“Seung Gi-sshi,” she replied, before retreating back to her bar to fix up my drink – when it hit me that I didn’t even know what it was.

Laughing to myself, I looked for a table outside but saw that there were some girls sitting there. So I decided to sit inside.

And the moment I sat down, I suddenly heard the first and the last thing I wanted to hear for the day.
